I think it’s an amazing experience to be able to sit in on clinics, especially when it’s a guitar player you really respect, and be able to listen to them, not only play, but explain the thoughts, reasoning, and techniques behind certain songs or solos, as well as answer questions.
This was the case on August 30th, 1998, when John Petrucci visited the Musicians Institute while on tour with Dream Theater. In this video, he plays “Paradigm Shift” live, and then discusses techniques related to the song. He also does a cover of Prince, discusses his gear, and more.
