One of my favorite movies from the 1980’s (yes, I am that old) is “Crossroads” starring Ralph Macchio, Joe Seneca, and Jami Gertz. It’s about a young man who is an excellent classically trained guitar player who’s true passion is for the blues.
Throughout the movie there are some great blues pieces by Ry Cooder. But my favorite part is the end where the duel takes place between the lead character (portrayed by Macchio) and Jack Butler (played, literally and figuratively, by Steve Vai). It’s a great shred piece by Vai (tho, admittedly, my favorite part is the final run by Macchio, actually played by Vai, as well, but I digress).
Below is a great lesson by Troy Grady explaining the classic “Intimidation Lick” that is a part of the duel. It’s a favorite of mine, and I would dare say many a guitar player.
